Overview

The Department of Financial Regulations Insurance Division is seeking a full time Consumer Service Specialist II. This position provides assistance to Vermonters about all lines of insurance. Duties require significant telephone contact with consumers, members of the general public including state representatives, insurance companies, insurance agents, adjusters and staff members. The communication ranges from general insurance inquiries to handling of claims, non-renewals and sales for all types of insurance.

 

The major duties include obtaining and analyzing pertinent information to determine whether Vermont insurances rules and regulations were complied with and negotiate resolution. Verify that appropriate forms and filings were received and approved by the department to support the carrier's position on claim processing denials and rating complaints. Additional analysis of compliance to Vermont insurance laws and regulations is to be incorporated with all complaint filings. Resolutions are to be correct with appropriate notification to complainants after a thorough review has been complete.

 

Review complaints for patterns of compliance problems by individual companies, adjusters or agents. Prepare summary breakdown and statistical analysis of findings. Refer reports of patterns found and individual egregious problems to the supervisor. Review complaints for market wide out of compliance and provide suggestions on what should be done to address and correct the problem. All analysis should be relevant and accurate with reports written in a professional manner including applicable narrative summaries.

 

This position requires participation in events throughout the state to educate Vermont residents about the Department's role and to assist elderly Vermonters with knowledge of, and how to prevent themselves from, frauds and scams.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a standard office setting. The job role involves communicating with individuals in potentially adverse situations and under some degree of stress. Tact and diplomacy are required to arrive at a proper solution to a problem.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s Degree, or higher, and two (2) years of experience in insurance operations such as customer service, claims adjusting, or negotiating settlements under the various forms of coverage such as fire, liability, casualty, accident and health and life insurance.

OR

High School Diploma and four (4) years of experience in insurance operations such as customer service, claims adjusting, or negotiating settlements under the various forms of coverage such as fire, liability, casualty, accident and health and life insurance.
