The Department of Human Resources (DHR) is seeking a Classification & Compensation Specialist. This is an entry level role that provides an excellent opportunity to enter this specialized field of human resources. You will support classification and compensation analysts while developing expertise in the fields of classification, compensation and position management.
Ideally, you will have some background in human resources through experience or education. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, an excellent communicator both written and verbally, the ability to work independently, and keen attention to detail are essential. Strong skills in excel would be a plus. And most importantly, have the motivation to learn and grow!
DHR is poised to enter an exciting multiyear project to modernize its classification and compensation system and in this position you'll be able to play a critical and exciting role in that effort.
You will:
- Independently manage classification/compensation administrative processes, working closely with classification and compensation analysts.
- Generate and analyze information and data extracted from our Human Resource Management System.
- Learn job evaluation methodology to evaluate positions to ensure fair and consistent placement within the state's pay structure.
- Learn compensation methodology and practice.

As of July 14, 2025, the step 1 rate for pay grade 22 will be $25.98 per hour.

Environmental Factors
Duties are normally performed in a standard office setting. Some travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal work schedule may be required. Strong differences of opinion will be encountered on a regular basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in human resources, business administration, psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, economics, or related analytical field.
OR
One (1) year or more of human resource management including experience performing administrative, analytical and/or consultative duties.
