Title: Buildings Design & Construction Apprentice

Overview
This position is for students who are actively pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a building construction-related field including engineering, architecture, interior design, construction management, or related field. Stationed in our busy downtown Montpelier office, the Buildings Design & Construction Technician will help generate accurate as-built plans to aid in the implementation of a facility management system, support a statewide space optimization study, and gain exposure to the project delivery process by conducting plan and specification reviews, attending job meetings, and shadowing onsite construction inspectors, learning about other facets of facility operations. This may include interactions and work with our other offices which include Operations and Maintenance, Business Services, and the Office of Purchasing and Contracting.
Examples of work include, but are not limited to:
- Survey work: Verify as-built needs including but not limited to; interior plan layout, exterior site plan information, reflected ceiling plan & lighting, room number identification for E-911 and re-numbering to our BGS standards in the works.
- WIMS asset tagging: This role will support the Workplace Integrated Management System (WIMS) program administration team on the asset tagging and physical inventory processes of building assets, as well as perform tasks in relation to WIMS data collection
- CAD: Creation of project cover sheets and picking up redlines from a project manager.
- Energy: Utility data billing and integration with Energy Star Portfolio Manager, contact and outreach with municipalities and Regional Planning Commissions (RPCs), and research of innovative technologies to reduce energy consumption.
Who May Apply
This position, Buildings Design & Construction Technician (Job Requisition #31841), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors
Work is generally performed in a standard office and field setting. A private means of transportation must be available. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered during negotiations and the ability to persuade others is required. Some work outside of normal work schedule may be anticipated.
Minimum Qualifications
Actively pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in a building construction field such as engineering, architecture, interior design, construction management, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of Computer Assisted Design and Drafting (CADD)
Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
Ability to develop effective working relationships and thrive in a fast-paced environment
