Overview

The Department of Buildings & General Services (BGS) is hiring a Senior Custodial Supervisor to support the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team in the Capital District in Montpelier, which includes the Vermont State House and several historic buildings.

 

This role will provide leadership and oversight for custodial operations across the Montpelier complex. Responsibilities include daily cleaning, trash removal, vacuuming, mopping, bathroom maintenance, carpet care, and hard floor treatment using industrial equipment. The Supervisor will also manage supply orders and play a key role in training both new and existing staff.

This position will work 9am to 5pm. Successful completion of a background check and a valid drivers license are required.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed during an assigned shift at the state owned or leased buildings in the Montpelier District. Cleaning work often involves addressing bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infections material. Direct interaction with legislators, judicial and the public may be extensive, leading to potentially stressful situations. Incumbents must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition and ability to climb ladders and lift weights of up to 50-lbs. is necessary. Overtime and evening work may be required. 

Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) years or more of building custodial work that included floor maintenance tasks such as stripping and waxing floors and carpet extraction INCLUDING at least three (3) years of experience as a supervisor with experience in establishing performance expectations, writing and discussing performance evaluations, and delivering supervisory feedback.

Special Requirements

May require a valid driver’s license and own transportation for travel between work locations. 

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
