Overview

The State Safety & Security Office at the Department of Buildings and General Services is seeking a Security Officer to work in Montpelier, primarily on overnight shifts. The incumbent will provide protection to State facilities and occupants by conducting access control, foot and vehicle patrol, assisting employees and visitors, and response to all hazards and emergencies. The incumbent must be able to work shifts including holidays, have the ability to walk and run, and work outdoors in all weather. This position must attain CPR/AED and First Aid certification, in addition to all other required training within the first nine months of employment.

This position must pass a fingerprint supported background check prior to starting position.

Environmental Factors

Incumbents may be expected to work night and/or weekends shifts and be willing to work overtime, sometimes on short notice. Incumbents will frequently work alone and in adverse weather conditions. Tact is needed while conversing with state employees, contractors, and the public. Some exposure to potentially dangerous situations may be encountered. Standing or walking for extended periods will be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years or more of experience in security work which involved dealing with the public.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of customer service experience which involved direct public contact INCLUDING one (1) year or more of experience in security work which involved dealing with the public.

OR

One (1) year or more of full-time college coursework in a criminal justice field AND one (1) year or more experience in security work which involved dealing with the public.

OR

One (1) year or more of full-time college coursework in a criminal justice related field AND two (2) years or more of customer service experience which involved direct public contact.

Special Requirements

Valid Driver's License is required.

Must pass a fingerprint supported security clearance prior to starting position.

CPR/AED and First Aid certification and all other BGS approved required training must be completed within the first nine months of employment.
