The Office of Professional Regulation (OPR) seeks a dynamic Assistant Director to lead a skilled professional team in delivering exceptional customer service, streamlined operations, and effective policy for a Division with regulatory oversight of 48 distinct professions and 75,000 individual licenses. Responsibilities include personnel, operations, online systems, grants and contracts, and facilities, as well as a liaison role for fiscal and information technology functions. Work is performed under the supervision of the OPR Director; however, the Assistant Director will need to use individual judgment and discretion on a regular basis. OPR engages in continual improvement processes and requires that all staff contribute to policy and operations development. Class Definition

The Assistant Director helps direct the administrative services functions for the Office of Professional Regulation, including personnel, facility, information technology and more specifically the licensing and enforcement functions of the office. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of OPR, but with opportunity and need for individual judgment and discretion on a regular basis. 

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed largely in a standard office setting, but some occasional travel will require private means of transportation. Some work outside of normal work schedule may be anticipated. Appearances at legislative hearings, administrative hearings and meetings with other agencies can be expected. Encounters with licensees, complainants and their representatives may produce stressful situations and strong differences of opinion. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND five (5) years or more of professional level experience performing and supervising administrative functions for a moderate sized office, department or agency.


Seven (7) years or more of professional level experience performing and supervising administrative functions for a moderate sized office, department or agency.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in licensing, project management, business analysis, business administration, IT, or delivery of other related government services.
