Overview

The Office of the Attorney General, Medicaid Fraud and Residential Abuse Unit (MFRAU), is seeking a full-time Assistant Attorney General to represent the State in criminal and civil matters. The MFRAU is part of the AGO’s Criminal Division and offers a unique and dynamic working environment. 

Description

MFRAU’s mission is to protect vulnerable citizens and the integrity of the Medicaid health care program. In fulfilling that mission, MFRAU is responsible for investigating and prosecuting Medicaid provider fraud, as well as abuse or neglect of residents in health care facilities and board and care facilities and of Medicaid enrollees in noninstitutional or other settings. Additionally, MFRAU handles cases arising under the Vermont False Claims Act involving Medicaid Fraud. 
The individual selected will work investigations and prosecutions in a team setting, alongside investigators and analysts. They will also closely with federal, state, county and municipal law enforcement agencies, state partners like the Agency of Human Services, and with victims of crime. The individual selected for this position may also represent MFRAU at meetings and in committees with state and federal partners. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of MFRAU.

Compensation

This Assistant Attorney General position is an exempt full-time position. Salary and benefits will be based upon qualifications and experience in accordance with the State of Vermont Attorney Pay Plan. The position is located at the Attorney General’s Office at 109 State Street in Montpelier, Vermont but some remote work is permitted. The candidate must be willing to travel and work independently but within the structure of a government legal team.

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar or be eligible to obtain admission by waiver.

A minimum of two years of legal practice is required. 

Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Experience in criminal or healthcare law is strongly preferred but not required.
