Overview
The Vermont Attorney General’s Office has an immediate opening for a full-time assistant attorney general in the Environmental Protection Unit to work on legal matters for the Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets. The Environmental Protection Unit is part of the Environmental and Public Protection Division of the Attorney General’s Office.
Description
The selected individual will work closely with staff and other attorneys at the Agency to provide legal services to the Agency. Duties may include representing the Agency in civil litigation, including enforcement actions; providing advice on grants and contracts; and working on a wide range of issues involving agriculture and related industries, including food safety, water quality, agricultural development, animal and plant health, environmental protection, and more.
Compensation
This Assistant Attorney General position is an exempt full-time position. Salary and benefits will be based upon qualifications and experience in accordance with the State of Vermont Attorney Pay Plan. Minimum Requirements
Must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar or be eligible to be admitted.
A minimum of five years relevant litigation, client counseling, and administrative, agricultural, or environmental law experience.
Excellent legal writing and analysis, top-notch communication skills in a variety of contexts, excellent time management and the ability to prioritize and handle many matters at once, and the ability to work collaboratively with other lawyers and staff.
