Overview

The Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets, Water Quality Division is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Assistant Director.  If you are a strategic thinker with strong leadership, project management, and communication skills this could be the role for you. Management and program/policy development experience preferred. Candidates must have a strong understanding of how to interpret state and federal statutes and rule-making processes. The work associated with this position will be dynamic, fast-paced, and complex. Accountability towards reductions in agricultural water quality non-point source pollution is a high priority for Vermont and is a primary responsibility of this position. The Assistant Director will supervise multiple teams within the Division and must work across the Agency with other divisions to ensure consistent delivery of services.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed mostly in an office setting. Travel statewide is required. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, is required. Work will often be performed in a dynamic and engaging committee-style forum where strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis. Presentations or testifying at the State House is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in agriculture, biological, plant or soil science, chemistry, public policy or other closely related science AND one (1) year or more of professional level experience in program development, analysis or budgeting INCLUDING one (1) year or more supervising (directly or indirectly) administrative functions for a moderate sized program, office, department or agency.

 

OR

 

Bachelor's degree in agriculture, biological, plant or soil science, chemistry, public policy or other closely related science AND three (3) years or more of professional level experience in program development, analysis or budgeting INCLUDING one (1) year or more supervising (directly or indirectly) administrative functions for a moderately sized program, office, department or agency.

 

OR

 

Seven (7) years or more of professional level experience in program development, analysis or budgeting INCLUDING one (1) year or more supervising (directly or indirectly) administrative functions for a moderate sized program, office, department or agency.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with agricultural water quality regulation or education in Vermont.

Experience in developing and implementing educational and outreach programs and regulatory programs in relation to water quality initiatives.
