Overview

The Department of Buildings & General Services (BGS) Print Shop at the State of Vermont seeks a reliable print and finish technician for our fast-paced production environment. This position operates both monochrome and color high-speed printers and a variety of finishing equipment. The Technician prints, finishes, compiles, and boxes the calendars, journals, and bills generated by the Legislature each day so they are ready for delivery to the House and Senate the following morning. The position also prints and finishes transactional and publication print jobs, and may prep and scan archival records as time permits.

 

This temporary position will work 4pm to midnight beginning in mid-December, through the end of the Legislative session, which is typically around mid-May.

This position, Digital Printing Technician I (Job Requisition #48552), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Candidates must agree to be fingerprinted and pass a background check to be eligible for this position, which will involve access to sensitive federal tax information. Background checks are required by the Internal Revenue Service and are authorized under Vermont law. 3 V.S.A. § 241. In accordance with BGS FTI Memorandum - 9/2021. Background Investigations will be conducted on all candidates. Candidates will have the right to withdraw their application before fingerprinting or a background check is conducted.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in an area with high noise levels and under the pressure of deadlines and shifting priorities.  Lifting of heavy boxes of paper and other work related objects is necessary. Manual dexterity is needed to operate equipment. The inevitable exposure to inks and other print materials may cause soiling of clothing.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and skills related to software and production equipment currently used in our shop.
