Overview

Do you like front line work but from the comfort of your own home? Do you like challenging work with the flexibility of a part-time schedule? Than the Economic Services team in Middlebury might be the right fit for you! This position is Home Based but does offer in-person service on a rotating schedule. A typical work week would include but is not limited to: conducting interviews with program applicants, processing and approving accurate eligibility determinations for public benefits (3Squares, Reach-Up, Seasonal Fuel Assistance etc.), assisting Vermonters in navigating/referring to other State and Federal programs as well as Community Partner agency programs. The ideal candidate would be confident in phone communication as well as in-person face to face meetings.

This position, Benefits Programs Specialist - Temporary (Job Requisition #40170), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours, and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors

Duties are primarily performed in an office setting, but private means of transportation should be available for necessary travel to training and/or meetings. Workload is typically heavy with a constant need for prompt, accurate decisions. Incumbents must be organized and able to function independently while balancing competing priorities. Clientele can present with a variety of challenges resulting in a need to calmly and professionally manage situations in which applicants may be in a heightened emotional state, angry, frustrated, unable to communicate, and/or discouraged.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent AND four 4 years or more of experience in direct client services in a human services, education or employment and training setting.

OR

Associate's degree or higher AND two 2 years or more of experience in direct client services in a human services, education or employment and training setting.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Services, or Education
