Overview

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is seeking to hire temporary employees for the 2026 field season. Work location will be at the Essex Jct. office.  Duties include several field-based activities including, but not limited to, bass and fish community pond surveys, stream trout population surveys, temperature monitoring, culvert assessments, habitat improvement projects, creel surveys, data entry and equipment preparation and maintenance.

 

The work can be physically demanding and may be conducted in adverse weather conditions. Variable hours including evenings, weekends and holidays may be required. Employees are limited to 40 hours/week. Benefits are not provided.

Temporary work is typically for variable hours, and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma AND greater than 60 credit hours in a University/College natural resources program.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in both an outdoor and office setting. Work in the field may involve traversing rough terrain or bodies of water and exposure to al types of weather conditions. Evening, weekend, and long, irregular work hours may be required. Significant physical labor may be required and exposure to physical harm or injury is possible. A valid Vermont driver's license is required, and Vermont boating education certification may be required.
