Specialized quality management activities for the Department of Health Laboratory, which includes the microbiology, toxicology, environmental chemistry and customer service programs. Duties include the implementation and monitoring of an approved quality system and quality system improvements, interaction with federal and state regulatory agencies and training of laboratory staff. Work is performed under the direction of the Quality Manager who reports to the Laboratory Director. All employees of the Agency of Human Services perform their respective functions adhering to four key practices: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships and results orientation.


Examples of Work:
Implements, maintains and monitors a laboratory-wide quality system and develops quality system improvements under direction of Quality Manager. Monitors test quality control data for trends or aberrations and provides recommendations for corrective action. Assists staff with routine audits of analytical test programs and provides summaries. Supports management of laboratory support equipment through coordination of maintenance services and performance of verification checks. Prepares quality control and statistical reports as required. Maintains and coordinates the laboratory-wide corrective action documentation system. Supports the Quality Manager in updating the quality system plan on an annual basis and ensuring the laboratory meets all applicable standards of federal and state oversight entities such as CLIA and EPA, among others. Works with laboratory leadership to meet personnel training needs and to assure appropriate performance of certification activities. Prepares quality control and statistical reports as required. Performs related duties as required.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a laboratory which tests for hazardous materials, infectious diseases and chemical toxins. Protective clothing may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a physical or biological science with at least 18 credit hours of chemistry or 16 credit hours in microbiology AND three (3) years or more of professional level experience in a public health, environmental or related laboratory setting with at least two years of experience as a Quality Systems or Quality Assurance Coordinator.
