Overview

The Vermont Department of Public Health is currently recruiting for a full-time Quality Manager who will update, coordinate, implement and oversee the quality management systems and plans for the Vermont Public Health Laboratory (VPHL).  Work includes interpreting, applying, and implementing standards, rules and regulations of accrediting agencies such as CLIA, EPA, FDA, A2LA, USDA, TNI, and VPHL Quality Systems Manual, assuring compliance with all federal and state requirements. The position will reduce audit findings and deficiencies and ensure VPHL efforts are above reproach. Proven leadership in laboratory quality systems and supervisory experience preferred.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS:  Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.  In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Environmental Factors

Must be able to work in laboratory conditions with exposure to noxious or harmful fumes and chemicals and operate sophisticated laboratory equipment.  Work requires some travel and incumbents should possess a valid Vermont operator's license.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, cellular or molecular biology science AND six (6) years or more of professional laboratory experience performing analysis and/or conducting quality analysis in a laboratory.

OR

Master's degree in chemistry, microbiology, physical chemistry, cellular or molecular biology, AND four (4) years or more of professional laboratory experience performing analysis and/or conducting quality analysis in a laboratory.

OR

Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, physical chemistry, cellular or molecular biology, or toxicology AND two (2) years or more of professional laboratory experience performing analysis and/or conducting quality analysis in a laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with accreditation standards/compliance and auditing.
