Overview
The Vermont Department of Health Laboratory is seeking an individual to perform technical support duties for the microbiology test areas. This position is a grant funded position for a three-year duration with a possible extension.
This limited-service position expires 7/31/24.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. Class Definition
Professional technical laboratory work within the Health Department laboratory involving most aspects of technical support for all test areas. May perform duties for both chemistry and microbiology at any time. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Program Chief or higher level technical and scientific staff member. Promotion to a higher level technician position requires completion of any required in-service training and satisfaction of the qualifications.
Environmental Factors
Must be able to work in laboratory conditions with exposure to noxious or harmful fumes, chemicals and blood borne or other infectious pathogens. Manual dexterity and good vision are required for certain tests and in order to use equipment. The ability to lift moderate weight is required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in a physical or biological science, which include 18 credits or more in chemistry or microbiology.
OR
Two (2) years or more of full-time college coursework or an associate's degree or higher in a laboratory science, which includes one (1) or more math courses.
OR
One (1) year or more of environmental, clinical, or food testing laboratory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree in a physical or biological science which includes 18 credits or more in microbiology. Working knowledge of sterilization processes, specimen accession, media preparation, glassware washing, laboratory safety, and equipment preventive maintenance is highly desirable for this position. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, high attention to detail individual with a minimum of one or more years of experience in an environmental, clinical, or food testing laboratory performing test support duties.
