Overview

The Military Maintenance Specialist position is responsible for maintenance work and contractor oversight for the Vermont Military Department. Duties include engaging in multiple trades including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, heating, and other systems at military facilities. Incumbent will maintain the grounds, including snow removal in the winter months. May be responsible for operating heavy equipment, including plows with wings. Candidates should have considerable knowledge of various trades, in addition to safety procedures required when preforming construction and repair of building systems. This position will work 7:30am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, with some overtime and on-call hours.

Incumbents of this job are issued a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC), which is issued only upon passing a federal background check (Tier 1) including a fingerprint-supported criminal record check. Candidates must obtain the CAC for successful completion of original probation. Possession of the CAC is a condition of employment.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed at military facilities in VT. An incumbent, often work near or with hazardous materials, including ammunition and high voltage. Work requires entering confined spaces, removing snow on runways and exposure to loud noises. An incumbent operates heavy equipment and possession of a Commercial Driver's License is required. An incumbent must be able to climb ladders and lift equipment and materials weighing as much as 60 pounds. Work is performed in all kinds of weather. Some outside of normal working hours may be required. Travel and overnight stay may be included.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years of Military Maintenance Specialist II level of responsibility.

 

Note: Possession of VT Electrical and Plumbing licenses required

Note: Possession of Commercial Driver's license required

Note: Possession of certification for Proper Refrigerant Practices required
