Title: Military Department Legal Services Specialist

Overview
The Legal Services Specialist will provide paralegal support to attorneys within the Military Department. This position will assist attorneys with preparation of legal documents, disciplinary cases, legal opinions and administrative hearings. Additionally, this position may assist with writing policies, procedures, and developing or drafting legislation. The incumbent will correspond with all involved parties, including attorneys, military personnel and the public. The ideal candidate will be able to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and deal tactfully with the public.

Special Requirements: Incumbents of this job are issued a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC), which is issued only upon passing a federal background check (Tier 1) including a fingerprint-supported criminal record check. Candidates must obtain the CAC for successful completion of original probation. Possession of the CAC is a condition of employment. Additionally, Incumbents of this job may be required to view and access classified information, therefore a favorably adjudicated (Tier 3) Secret Clearance may be required.
Environmental Factors
Duties are generally performed in office settings. Some work in the field could on rare occasions necessitate travel for which incumbents should have private means of transportation available. Some evening or overtime work may be required. Incumbents must be able to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and deal tactfully with the public.
Minimum Qualifications
Five (5) years of experience as a paralegal.
Preferred Qualifications
Paralegal degree or certificate.
Experience as a military paralegal or as a civilian paralegal employed in a military workplace.
