Class Definition

Administrative, technical and supervisory work involving the customer service program at the Vermont Health Department Laboratory. Duties include staff supervision and data collection, storage and retrieval. There is significant interaction with Department staff and a variety of customers. Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Health Laboratory Administrator.

 

All employees of the Agency of Human Services perform their respective functions adhering to four key practices: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships and results orientation.

Examples of Work

Develops and monitors a laboratory wide customer service program including the preparation of program policies and procedures and the training of assigned staff. Integrates this program with other laboratory practices and procedures. Provides oversight to the alcohol program information system. Responds to court and other legal requests for information. Assures that records meet the special confidential and legal requirements of the alcohol program. Responsible for payroll administration, maintenance contracts and supply inventory. Provides a variety of statistical, financial and workload reports. Provides general oversight of the laboratory information systems. Performs related duties as required.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting but some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available. In the laboratory environment, class incumbents might be exposed to hazardous materials and will also be receiving laboratory samples. Some work outside of regular work hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school graduation or GED.

Experience: Four years of office experience at a senior clerical level or higher including six months of supervisory experience.
