Overview

The Agency of Transportation (AOT) Project Manager supervises a small team of technical staff based in Colchester.

 

This position will:

  • Provide technical assistance to towns and administers the town grant program.
  • Respond to emergency situations such as flooding and other natural disasters.
  • Monitor access to state highways and any work done in the State right-of-way.
  • Provide technical assistance to district crews for various roadway repairs.
  • May provide oversight for district projects.
  • Reviews plans for construction projects.

Environmental Factors

Duties are generally performed in both an office and field settings. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Class incumbents may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough, wooded, or steep terrain, travel in boats or work on structures above ground level. Duties may also require exposure to extreme weather conditions. Attendance is required at public meetings where strong adversarial opinions may be encountered. Some public speaking may be needed. Overtime needs are predictable.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology or architecture AND one (1) year or more of experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: roadway construction, design, traffic operations, surveys, or materials, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, materials investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects INCLUDING one (1) year or more of supervisory experience.

OR

Bachelor's in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology or architecture AND three (3) years or more of experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: roadway construction, design, traffic operations, surveys, or materials, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, materials investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects INCLUDING one (1) year or more of supervisory experience.

OR

Associate's degree in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology or architecture AND five (5) years or more of experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: roadway construction, design, traffic operations, surveys, or materials, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, materials investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects INCLUDING one (1) year or more of supervisory experience.

OR

High School diploma or equivalent AND seven (7) years or more of experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: roadway construction, design, traffic operations, surveys, or materials, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, materials investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects INCLUDING one (1) year or more of supervisory experience.
