The Vermont Tobacco Program is looking for a team player who is intrinsically interested and committed in serving Vermonters of all ages in quitting tobacco use. This position is the Tobacco Treatment Specialist and serves as part of the cessation unit which is a recognized component of a best practice CDC Tobacco Program. The Tobacco Treatment Specialist is responsible for overseeing the contract(s) and grants providing Quitline, Quit Online and other services proven to help people quit tobacco use including vaping; collaborates with partners, clinics and providers to support and facilitate cessation supports and processes; monitors, analyzes and shares data with the team, decisionmakers and partners; and reads and disseminates findings from research and studies that inform and refine the program's treatment services.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a standard office setting. Considerable interaction will occur with community groups, medical providers and other state agencies and partners. Stress may be encountered with meeting multiple deadlines and needing to resolve difficult issues and disputes related to overseeing the equitable distribution of state and federal funds. Frequent travel to meetings with state agencies and community partners is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND three (3) years or more of professional experience working in a public health program in areas such as: program planning and implementation; grant and contract management; oversight of data collection; and assessment and implementation of training needs and programs.


Master's degree or higher in health education, public health, public administration or related field AND one (1) year or more of professional experience working in a public health program in areas such as: program planning and implementation; grant and contract management; oversight of data collection; and assessment and implementation of training needs and programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of public health theory and practices, particularly as they relate to community health programs.
