Overview

The Job Center Specialist II provides comprehensive services to jobseekers and employers, collaborates with partner organizations and agencies to promote effective and seamless workforce education and training opportunities in an American Job Center that benefits both individuals and the employer community.

The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, experience working with diverse populations, and sensitivity towards working with individuals with multiple barriers, an applied knowledge of career counseling principles and strategies to support individuals returning to the workforce. Applicants must possess the ability to understand complex regulations and follow established processes, as well as demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships among a variety of community partners.

There is an expectation that the Job Center Specialist II will be proficient in prioritizing, organizing, and managing their workload while working under programmatic deadlines. Competence in a variety of computer applications including MS Office Suite is a requirement of this position.

The duty station for the individual hired for this position will be the Burlington Office, however, the job requires travel between the Burlington and St Albans offices as needed.

Environmental Factors

Interviews clients who are often under significant personal and financial burden, and who may exhibit significant stress and anxiety and may exhibit uncooperative or angry behaviors. It is expected that JCS II staff will engage all clients in a manner that exhibits professionalism, sensitivity, fairness, tact and diplomacy, and helps clients understand the services available to them through VDOL programs. Supportive attitude and actions are expected to be demonstrated in dealing with clients.

Position is assigned to a regional office location, but there is an expectation for travel between multiple regional locations as assigned by the Department. Will include travel to employers' worksites, schools/technical centers and community partner meetings. May be required to attend evening meetings as assigned by supervisor. Valid driver's license and private means of transportation is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

OR

Associate's degree AND one (1) year or more of experience in direct customer service, employment services, human services, human resources, vocational counseling, or closely related field.

OR

High School diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of experience in direct customer service, employment services, human services, human resources, vocational counseling, or closely related field.
