The Agency of Digital Services Enterprise Application Services (EAS) team is in search of a skilled Windows Systems Administrator to join our team. The IT Systems Administrator III position will have the choice of being based in either Burlington or Montpelier and will report to the EAS manager. Some occasional travel between these two offices may be necessary. The Systems Administrator will maintain responsible stewardship of a standard workload of Windows servers. Responsible stewardship consists of monitoring overall health, troubleshooting OS issues, assisting application owners/developers with troubleshooting applications, remediating security findings, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for being a team member of our Globalscape EFT platform, and eventually transitioning into that team lead, and be the primary subject matter expert for that system.

The successful applicant for this position will possess the following:

1. An analytical mind and logical thought process.
2. A strong sense of personal responsibility.
3. Demonstrated operational knowledge of Windows server operating systems including, 2003, 2008(R2), 2012(R2), 2016, and 2019.
4. Working knowledge of generally accepted networking principles including application communication ports and protocols, firewalling, basic IP subnetting, and general connectivity troubleshooting.
5. Working knowledge of Active Directory Domain Services including, Active Directory, Group policy, DHCP, DNS, Windows file and print services. Bonus points for Certificate Services knowledge.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a standard office setting, but some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available. Some maintenance work on assigned equipment may be necessary and some work outside of regular work schedule may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science AND two (2) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.


Associate's degree in computer science or college-level coursework that includes 15 computer science credits AND four (4) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.


Six (6) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prior experience with workflow-based applications and FTP/SFTP/FTPS applications.
2. Prior successful experience performing systems administration work in a large multiuser technology diverse environment.
3. Prior successful experience working in a multi forest environment.
4. Prior experience with Office365 and Azure SaaS/PaaS platforms.
