Overview

HireAbility Vermont is seeking a Work Incentive Counselor to serve job seekers with disabilities in the Brattleboro/Springfield/White River Junction region. Work Incentive Counselors provide accurate, timely benefits information so that consumers can make informed choices about employment and benefits. The nature of the job involves a diverse range of knowledge about state and federal funded benefits, program rules and disabilities issues. Work Incentive Counselors are proficient with utilizing data bases and providing complex analysis to consumers. A high degree of independent thinking and flexibility is needed to contribute to the well-being of consumers, and to provide accurate information to all that inquire. Must be a self-starter, demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, and have excellent computer and technical skills.

 

This position is subject to the State of Vermont return to the office mandate, and the successful candidate is expected to be in the in the office at least three days per week.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting. Considerable travel to outlying offices may be required for which private means of transportation must be available. Strong interpersonal skills are required in dealing with consumers and their advocates. Some work outside of normal office hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree or higher AND one (1) year or more of experience at a professional level working directly with persons with disabilities OR one (1) year or more of experience at a professional level in the administration or implementation of a public benefits program.

 

OR

 

Three (3) years or more of experience at a professional level working directly with persons with disabilities OR three (3) years or more of experience at a professional level in the administration or implementation of a public benefits program.
 

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a counseling-related field.

Special Requirements

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights. Work Incentive Counselors must become Social Security Administration, Certified Work Incentive Counselors (CWIC) within 18 months of hire.
