Overview

Buildings and General Services (BGS) at the State of Vermont has an exciting and unique opportunity with room for growth as a BGS Institutional Custodian at the Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital located in Berlin. This position is responsible for general cleaning work for a 25-bed inpatient facility. Duties include cleaning and disinfecting clinical areas, carpet cleaning, caring for and maintaining hard floors, as well as office cleaning.

 

There are currently two positions available. Please indicate in your application is you have a shift preference.

  • First position: Monday through Friday, 3pm to 11:30pm, with some holiday coverage required.
  • Second position, Saturday through Wednesday, 6:30am to 3pm, with some holiday coverage required.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a hospital or rehabilitation environment, including office, classroom, and patient care settings. Direct interaction with patients or residents may be extensive, leading to potential exposure to infectious disease or physical injury. Duties may, at times, extend beyond the normal daytime and work week hours. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition and ability to climb ladders and lift heavy weights and equipment (up to 60 lbs.) is necessary. Some overtime may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more experience of building custodial work that included floor maintenance tasks such as stripping and waxing floors and carpet extraction.

OR

Two (2) years as a BGS Custodian II. 

Special Requirements

Some positions in this class require a valid driver’s license and own transportation for travel between work locations. 

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
