Overview
The Agency of Transportation (AOT) has an exciting opportunity in the Construction & Materials Bureau for an independent thinking, problem solving person.
The Bituminous Concrete Unit's Field Group is seeking two Technical Apprentices to join their team. The Field Group is responsible for the application of Quality Assurance at HMA producer facilities and at the Agency's central laboratory in Berlin. This work includes conducting materials acceptance sampling and testing, oversite and review of Quality Control testing and results, and inspection of HMA production facilities and laboratories. This work in performed at a variety of locations throughout Vermont and our neighboring states, and comes with a high degree of independence when conducting field work.
It is anticipated that these positions will work approximately 40 hours per week for the construction season.
Who May Apply
This position, AOT Technical Apprentice V (Job Req #54859), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in office and field settings for which private means of transportation must be available. May be required on occasion to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough, wooded and/or steep terrain, or travel in boats. Field work may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions. Duties may require exposure to extreme weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) or more years of college coursework in engineering, construction management, or related field.
OR
Four (4) or more years of work experience in civil, construction, or environmental engineering, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Coursework or in engineering, construction management, or related technical field.
Special Requirements
A current, valid driver’s license is required, and transportation may be required for field assignments.
