Title: Veterans Home Cook - Temporary

Overview
The Vermont Veterans' Home, a long-term care nursing facility, is seeking to hire a cook with experience in volume cooking to prepare meals for our veterans and members. This is a temporary position working approximately 24 hours per week, primarily filling in gaps in the schedule and assisting at special events. The hours will vary and will include weekends and holidays.

The hourly rate may be negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
Who May Apply
This position, Veterans' Home Cook (#51208), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors
Work is performed in an institutional kitchen during an assigned shift. Incumbents must be able to operate cutters and slicers, handle knives, lift heavy weights (up to 60 lbs.) and work under conditions of high heat and humidity. Duties include supervision of dietary staff and lower level cooks in work situations.
Minimum Qualifications
Six (6) months or more of experience in volume cooking.
OR
Completion of a high school level culinary arts career preparation program.
OR
Completion of a formal course in commercial food preparation.
