Overview

The Vermont Veterans' Home (VVH) is currently seeking to hire Institutional Custodians. These positions may include housekeeping and/or laundry job duties. Housekeeping duties are mopping, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, cleaning of living spaces and common areas. Laundry duties include laundering linens and personal clothing, sorting, and folding, delivery and pickup of laundry as well as operation of laundry machines.


The hours for these positions are 6am to 2:30pm and include working weekends and holidays. Flexibility is important as there may be times when you might be required to work 11am to 7:30pm to accommodate the needs of the facility.

Class Definition

Routine manual work involving custodial, housekeeping, and laundry duties at the Vermont Veterans’ Home, including on the secure, certified dementia unit. Work assignments are received in the form of oral or written instructions and are subject to inspection while in progress or upon completion. Work is performed under the supervision of a Custodial or Administrative supervisor.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed during an assigned shift at the Vermont Veterans’ Home. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition required. Considerable standing, walking, lifting, and carrying of heavy objects may be required. Weekend and evening hours may be required. Duties are performed in a nursing home environment, including office, common areas and patient care areas. Direct interactions with patients may be extensive, leading to potential exposure to infectious disease or physical injury. Incumbents must be prepared to drive a vehicle in all types of weather.

Minimum Qualifications

No specific education or experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one (1) year of experience as a custodian or housekeeper in a health care or other institutional setting.
