Overview

The Vermont Veterans’ Home (VVH) is seeking a dedicated Institutional Custodian to join our team. This role plays an essential part in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our residents—Vermont’s Veterans, their spouses, and Gold Star parents.

 

Depending on assignment, duties may include housekeeping and/or laundry responsibilities. Housekeeping includes mopping, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, and cleaning resident rooms and common areas. Laundry includes washing, sorting, folding, and delivering linens and personal clothing, as well as operating laundry equipment.

 

This position will work 6am to 2:30pm, which may include weekends and holiday shifts.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed during an assigned shift at the Vermont Veterans’ Home. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition required. Considerable standing, walking, lifting, and carrying of heavy objects may be required. Weekend and evening hours may be required. 

Duties are performed in a nursing home environment, including office, common areas and patient care areas.  Direct interactions with patients may be extensive, leading to potential exposure to infectious disease or physical injury. Incumbents must be prepared to drive a vehicle in all types of weather.

Minimum Qualifications

No specific education or experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one (1) year of experience as a custodian or housekeeper in a health care or other institutional setting.
