We are currently seeking a Public Health Nutritionist to be a part of a multidisciplinary team in our local public health office and provide nutritional counseling to a wide range of individuals and community partners. Our Public Health Nutritionist delivers prenatal and postpartum support and nutrition education to families in our Women, Infants and Children (WIC) supplemental nutrition program and works collaboratively with other public health staff on community outreach, education and partnership to support local health promotion initiatives. Our Public Health Nutritionist also plays a critical role in helping us achieve our mission of healthy Vermonters living in healthy communities. As a team member of the Department of Health, the Public Health Nutritionist has a critical role in public health emergency preparedness and will receive training to support communities during emergencies that threaten public health. AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS:  Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.  In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Environmental Factors

Duties primarily performed in public health organization setting or in outlying service sites.

Travel to outlying sites will require a driver's license. Private means of transportation may be required.

Occasional travel to statewide trainings required. Potential travel in difficult weather conditions.

There is considerable interaction with staff, clients and the general public. At times of public health emergencies (floods, infectious disease outbreaks, etc.) individuals may be expected to assist. Physical demands vary with the position; generally limited to carrying equipment needed to conduct clinic and education activities. Employees work with a variety of clients and may have contact with potentially dangerous and combative individuals as well as a wide variety of illnesses. Certain functions may require duty outside of normal work hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in community nutrition, foods and nutrition, or dietetics from a didactic or coordinated program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

OR

Bachelor's degree or higher in community nutrition, foods and nutrition, or dietetics which includes coursework that meets the American Dietetic Association Standards of Education and Standards of Performance for Dietetic Registration.

OR

College senior in the final semester of a bachelor's degree program in community nutrition, foods and nutrition, or dietetics from a didactic or coordinated program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). (Graduation from the program must occur prior to hire.)

Preferred Qualifications

Licensed Dietitian (L.D.), Licensed Nutritionist (L.N.) or Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (L.D.N.).

Registered Dietitian. (R.D.)
