Overview

The Vermont Department of Health - Bennington District Office is seeking an experienced nurse to join their existing, interdisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to improving health equity in Bennington County. The work will focus on engagement with multiple community partners from different sectors of the community to address identified priorities in population health. Experience in community-based nursing, school health, and/or working with community stakeholders is desirable. The public health nurse work will include concentration or support of the following public health areas: epidemiologic investigation, school health, maternal and child health, substance misuse prevention, and immunization efforts. While in our COVID-19 response, this position will support our COVID-19 vaccination and testing clinics in a clinical capacity and other emergency response activities as needed. 


Job duties are performed under the supervision and assistance of a Public Health Nurse Supervisor. As part of the Vermont Department of Health, the Bennington District Office is one of 12 local health offices in Vermont. Our office is in Bennington, a small town nestled in Vermont's Green Mountains. The region has ample outdoor recreation opportunities (Official Appalachian Trail community, Mount Snow, Stratton Mountain), a vibrant arts scene (Mass MoCA, Bennington Arts Exchange), and an eclectic music and theater scene (Old Castle Theater, Green Mountain Bluegrass & Roots Festival, Solid Sound Festival). Bennington, VT is conveniently located within a 3 1/2-hour drive to metro areas including Boston, New York City and Montreal.

Environmental Factors

Duties primarily performed in a standard office setting. Work may be performed in clinic settings and possibly client homes. Exposure to communicable diseases and other stressful situations may occur. Private means of transportation is required. May be required to work evenings, weekends and 12 hour shifts.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in nursing AND two (2) years or more of professional nursing experience.

OR

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

OR

College senior in the final semester of a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) program. (Graduation from the BSN program must occur prior to hire and continued employment will be contingent on the employee passing the Nursing Licensure Exam (NCLEX).

Possession of, or eligibility for, licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont OR eligible to practice in the state of Vermont via a multi-state license.

NOTE: Must maintain Vermont licensure or multi-state license as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
