Overview

The Agency of Transportation (AOT) is seeking a Technician to work with the multiple and varied Units within the Right of Way (ROW), Utilities, and Survey (RUS) sections of AOT. This position includes a wide variety of duties, with a main focus being on the capture, display, and analyses of data related the daily functions of RUS.

 

The ideal candidate will have a good working knowledge of the Microsoft Power Platform tools, the related Power Fx coding, and the ability and desire to learn the daily functions of the RUS section to create innovative processes to support its technical needs. This position will also have the opportunity to cross-train and provide capacity as needed to fulfill RUS's project development support mission. Some experience with CADD and/or GIS is preferred but not required. Interpersonal skills are needed for interactions with coworkers and property owners as well as occasional meeting facilitation. 


The primary office for this position is based at Barre City Place (BCP) in downtown Barre. A hybrid work schedule is available, with the current expectation being in the BCP office at least one day each week. Occasional travel within the State may be required, with a State-owned vehicle being available for work related travel.

 

This position is classified as an AOT Technician II by the Department of Human Resources.

Environmental Factors

Duties are generally performed in an office, laboratory, and field setting for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Class incumbents may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough, wooded, and steep terrain, travel in boats or work on structures above ground level. Duties may also require exposure to extreme weather conditions. Out of state travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, environmental technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, construction management, or related technical field.

OR

Associate degree in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, construction management, or related field AND two (2) years’ experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: planning, surveying, design, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects.

OR

High school graduation or equivalent AND four (4) years of experience as described above.

OR

One (1) year as an AOT Technician I with the State of Vermont.

Some positions in this job class may require possession of a valid driver’s license.
