Overview

The Rail & Aviation Bureau has a great opportunity for a Project Engineer to jump right into a promising position with a well-defined growth ladder. This position will be part of a Project Delivery team at the Agency of Transportation (VTrans), where we manage the design of airport and railroad improvement projects; such as rail crossings, rail bridges, rail track infrastructure, airport runway & taxiway reconstruction, airport land & planning, slope stabilizations, emergency response projects, and many more. Daily duties will involve project management support, procuring projects through a standard process of design, bidding & construction, close coordination and management of design consultants, review and comments on Agency wide projects during design, as well as project site visits. 

 

Come with your EIT certificate and/or PE, or work toward it once on board.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office and field setting. Private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering OR registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) AND EITHER two (2) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering OR three (3) years or more of technical experience performing engineering support tasks involved in the planning, surveying, design, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, investigation, or maintenance of various types of civil engineering projects or operations.

OR

Bachelor's degree in any field of engineering AND EITHER three (3) years or more of professional engineering work OR three (3) years or more as a technician performing engineering support tasks involved in planning, surveying, design, roadway and bridge construction inspection, research and analysis, materials testing, and investigation.

OR

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) AND one (1) year or more of graduate coursework in civil engineering AND EITHER one (1) year or more of professional experience in civil engineering OR two (2) years or more of technical experience performing engineering support tasks involved in the planning, surveying, design, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, investigation, or maintenance of various types of civil engineering projects or operations.

OR

Bachelor's degree in any field of engineering AND one (1) year or more of graduate coursework in civil engineering AND EITHER two (2) years or more of professional engineering work OR two (2) years or more as a technician performing engineering support tasks involved in planning, surveying, design, roadway and bridge construction inspection, research and analysis, materials testing, and investigation.

OR

Eighteen (18) months or more of experience as a Civil Engineer II in the Agency of Transportation with the State of Vermont.

Preferred Qualifications

A working knowledge of the VTrans project development process is preferred.
