Title: AOT Technician III - Right of Way

Overview
The Agency of Transportation (AOT) is seeking a Technician to work in the Plans & Titles Unit of the Right of Way (ROW) section. This position includes a wide variety of duties requiring good time management and some analytical thinking. It is primarily a technical position involving some knowledge of mathematics relevant to reading and analyzing highway plans and survey plats, and an interest in creating new Right of Way plans using CADD software. The position also includes researching and compiling title abstracts for properties that may be directly affected by our transportation projects. An interest in the legal aspects of real property is helpful. Interpersonal skills are needed for interactions with coworkers and property owners as well as occasional meeting facilitation.
The majority of the work is based at Barre City Place in downtown Barre, and hybrid work may allowed after an initial training period. The remainder of the work involves doing research in town land records around the State, and meeting with some affected property owners. Environmental Factors
Duties are generally performed in an office, laboratory, and field setting for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Class incumbents may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough, wooded, and steep terrain, travel in boats or work on structures above ground level. Duties may also require exposure to extreme weather conditions. Out of state travel may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, environmental technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, construction management, or related technical field AND one (1) year of experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: planning, surveying, design, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects.
OR
Associate degree in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, or related field AND three (3) years of experience as described above.
OR
High school graduation or equivalent AND five (5) years of experience as described above.
OR
One (1) year as an AOT Technician II with the State of Vermont.

Some positions in this job class may require possession of a valid driver’s license.
