Overview

The AOT Project Manager I position will be working in the Consultant Management Group of the Structures Section at the Agency of Transportation (VTrans). The position will be responsible for developing multiple bridge projects from conceptual plans through construction. Most assignments will require the position to manage and guide consultants in the design of Agency bridge projects while some may use in-house design staff. The incumbent will follow VTrans project develop processes, policies, manuals and guidelines and will utilize VTrans scheduling, project information and budgeting software supporting successful delivery of projects. Problem solving, communication and presentation skills are important, in addition to a technical background for overseeing design work, understanding/reviewing technical plans and specifications.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis and these should be handled in a professional and respectful manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Engineering AND three (3) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Engineering OR Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering.

OR

Associate degree and ten (10) years or more of experience in Transportation Engineering or related field, including one (1) year or more of experience in the aspects of project delivery.

OR

Certification in Project Management (PMP Certificate) with ten (10) years of experience in Transportation Engineering or a related field, including one (1) year or more of experience in the aspects of project delivery.

 

NOTE: Some positions may require two years of supervisory experience. Participation in State of Vermont provided supervisor development programs may be substituted for supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience interpreting project plans and cost analysis, contract compliance and interpretation, methods of time estimation and recording.
