Overview

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) is seeking a Project Manager I to join its Municipal Assistance Section (MAS). This role will work in close partnership with municipalities and local project sponsors to plan, design, and deliver a range of transportation projects, from simple to moderately complex in scope. These projects are focused on improving safety and mobility, increasing system capacity, and preserving critical infrastructure for the traveling public.

 

The Project Manager I is responsible for guiding projects through all phases of development while ensuring compliance with applicable requirements. Many projects are supported through Federal Aid programs, requiring adherence to federal regulations and standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis and these should be handled in a professional and respectful manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Engineering AND three (3) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Engineering OR Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering.

OR

Associate degree and ten (10) years or more of experience in Transportation Engineering or related field, including one (1) year or more of experience in the aspects of project delivery.

OR

Certification in Project Management (PMP Certificate) with ten (10) years of experience in Transportation Engineering or a related field, including one (1) year or more of experience in the aspects of project delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience interpreting project plans and cost analysis, contract compliance and interpretation, methods of time estimation and recording.

Special Requirements

Some positions may require two years of supervisory experience. Participation in State of Vermont provided supervisor development programs may be substituted for supervisory experience.
