Overview

Ready for a positive change in your lifestyle?  Become a Public Health Nurse!  The Vermont Department of Health, St. Johnsbury Local Health District Office is seeking a public health nurse to join our team. Depending on the applicant's interest and experience, the public health nurse will be hired to work in multiple programmatic areas, such as epidemiology, immunization, maternal child health or school health. Public health nurses participate in the development, refinement and implementation of department programs and public health initiatives at the local level.  Public health nurses collaborate with other professionals, community partners and consumers on strategies to improve population health.  The Vermont Department of Health is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the department's diversity and commitment to foster an environment of mutual respect, acceptance and equal opportunity.

This posting is for 2 vacancies within the Department of Health; St. Johnsbury Office; one position will be permanent and one is an interim position. The interim position is expected to continue through September of 2020.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS:  Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.  In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Environmental Factors

Duties primarily performed in a standard office setting. Work may be performed in clinic settings and possibly client homes. Exposure to communicable diseases and other stressful situations may occur. Private means of transportation is required. May be required to work evenings, weekends and 12 hour shifts.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in nursing AND two (2) years or more of professional nursing experience.

OR

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

OR

College senior in the final semester of a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) program. (Graduation from the BSN program must occur prior to hire and continued employment will be contingent on the employee passing the Nursing Licensure Exam (NCLEX).

Possession of, or eligibility for, licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Special Requirements

Must maintain Vermont licensure as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment.
