Title: Health Asbestos and Lead Engineer - Limited Service

Overview
This position performs outreach, education and enforcement of the Vermont asbestos and lead control regulations. These regulations help ensure safe work practices in the building industry to protect the public from exposure to lead and asbestos hazards. This is a dynamic position that includes both desk and field work and collaboration with State and local officials and the building industry. Activities include but are not limited to inspecting worksites, providing education and compliance assistance to contractors on health-protective work practices and requirements, reviewing permit applications, and tracking noncompliance investigations to closure. This position also participates in the development of program regulations, policies and procedures to protect public health. Training will be provided to the right candidate.

Who May Apply
This position, Health Asbestos and Lead Engineer - Limited Service (Job Requisition #48448), is open to all State employees and external applicants. It is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in office settings and in the field. Private means of transportation must be available for field work. Duties will not always conform to a normal workday or workweek. Incumbents may be required to use personal protective equipment to perform some job duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in public health, environmental engineering or architecture.
OR
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years or more at or above a technical level in engineering, industrial hygiene, environmental health, air quality, or architecture.
OR
Associate degree and four (4) years or more at or above a technical level in engineering, industrial hygiene, environmental health, air quality, or architecture.
OR
High school diploma or equivalent AND six (6) years or more of experience at or above a technical level in engineering, industrial hygiene, environmental health, air quality or architecture.
Special Requirements
Must be Vermont certified or able to be certified in asbestos and lead consultant and contractor categories. Must be physically able to wear a respirator.
